Early 20th Century Shan Burmese Large Dry Lacquer Gilt Buddha Head Sculpture
A stunning, highly decorative, monumental Shan Burmese dry lacquer gilt Buddha head sculpture on a wood stand, early 20th Century. The Buddha’s round face is framed by long pendulous earlobes. The sculpture is initially made of papier maché and lacquered layers after layers. Each layer is left to dry for long period of times to build the lacquer and let the papier maché to disintegrate to leave only the dry lacquer to be gilded.
